The dictionary describes desperation as a state of hopelessness; it is the feeling that you have when you are in such a bad situation that you are willing to take risks in order to change it.
That is the case with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the moment. Desperate to get the nod of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to fly the party's flag in this year's governorship elelction, Aiyedatiwa has reportedly spent over One Billion Naira (N1 billion) on several failed attempts to get notable people's endorsements.
The chunk of the money, it was gathered, was received by the leaders of the disgraced Aborigines, led by Ambassador Sola Iji, Senator Ajayi Boroffice and other self-styled leaders.
Before the the bubble burst, the group had arrogated to itself the role of endorsing a candidate for the APC ahead of the election. But they were silenced following the condemnations that greeted their shortsighted and selfish action.
It is not surprising that having received about N9 billion for the shameful endorsement, the Aborigenes have lost their voice and recoiled into their shells.
Following closely in the footsteps of those who have smiled to the banks, courtesy Lucky Aiyedatiwa, since he adorned the garb of a Father Christmas, though it is still April, is Ekiti born senator, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB).
Highly respected for his long years of relationship with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, MOB may have lost touch with current reality, particularly in Ondo state politics.
Believing that he has a voice in the sunshine state politics, Aiyedatiwa reportedly paid the sum of One million dollars ($1m) to MOB to help him sell his candidature to the president.
Unfortunately, like in several other misadventures, the president was said to have gotten wind of the deal and subsquently reprimanded the senator for attempting to drag his name into murky waters.
At the moment, Aiydatiwa is said to be deeply troubled and has reportedly deeped further into the state's treasury with the promise to give any amount to whosever can assist him.
Aside the promise of huge cash to any notable person willing to endorse him, he has also resorted to dropping of names of people he claimed to have endorsed him ahead of the election.
The latest from his factory of lies is the story that the Chief of Staff to the president, RT. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has endorsed him. Like in previous lies, this also has caused some momentary frenzy in their camp.
